Trinidad Ruins - ParaguaySantissima Trinidad Del Parana was founded in 1706 by natives from the San Carlos Mission. The population exceeded 3,200 inhabitants in 1731. Its architecture is testimony to the technological advances that were employed in Mission Architecture in its last phase. In Trinidad it is possible to see the ruins of two churches because a provisional one was built due to the collapse of the vaults of the original church in 1775. The original church is similar to the one located in Sao Miguel, Brazil, due to the participation of the Primoli brothers in the construction of both buildings. Sandstone carvings of musical angels can be seen in the crypt and the niches and on the pulpit, the altar and the portals. The porches of the natives houses constructed using stone arches are also notable. A stone tower is located next to the smaller church. The Trinidad Ruins are located 8 miles from Jesus Ruins. Camping is permitted outside the ruins. This site is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1993. Jesus Ruins - ParaguayJesus de Tavarangue was founded in 1685 by the Jeronimo and Delfim monks. After the expulsion of the monks, the work of the Spanish monk/architect on the church and the school was left unfinished. The population reached 2,400 inhabitants in 1781. The remains of the unfinished church permit the visitor to understand the construction process in the final phase of the Mission Architecture style. The discovery of limestone made possible the adoption of the portantes walls of stone. The churches internal space is defined by the external walls and inside columns divide the three naves. Beautiful stone carvings form the portal of the school building. The Jesus Ruins are located 8 miles from Trinidad Ruins. This site it recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1993.
