There are several artificial beaches on the lake, used for leisure and aquatic sports.

Fish migration channel
When completed, the fish migration channel will be the biggest artificial fish migration channel in South America. It will allow the fish to avoid the unevenness between the riverbed of the Parana River and the lakebed of Itaipu Lake.

Climate of the reservoir region
The Climate is sub-tropical, temperate, humid, without a dry season. The mean maximum temperature is 27.6 C and the mean minimum is 16.7 C. The average monthly evaporation reaches the minimum of 55 mm in May and the maximum of 105 in December; the total annual average is 809 mm. The average relative air humidity is high in all months, with a yearly average of 84%. The average yearly rainfall is 1870 mm well distributed throughout the year, with a minimum of around 90 mm in July and a maximum of 230 mm in October.

The reservoir
The reservoir is 170 km or 107 miles long and 7 km or 4,5 miles wide in average. Nature herself is used to protect the reservoir. Of the area occupied by the hydroelectric complex, which extends from Guaira to Iguassu Falls, 45% consists of old growth or reforested vegetation whose function is to protect Itaipu Lake. Together with the biological reserves and refuges, this area, called the Protection Belt, covers 108 866 hectares, an area equivalent to more than half of the Iguassu National Park. The lake covers an area of 1,350 square kilometers or 843 square miles and contains 29 Billon M3 of water.
